Provided is a fluorine-containing ether compound with which a surface-treated layer can be formed having high initial water and oil repellent properties, as well as good rub resistance and easy removal of fingerprints. Also provided are a fluorine-containing ether composition and coating fluid, as well as a substrate having a surface-treated layer and a method for producing said substrate. A fluorine-containing ether compound having a poly(oxyperfluoroalkylene) chain (alphabeta), which has a C4 oxyperfluoroalkylene unit (alpha) and an oxyperfluoroalkylene unit (beta) other than the unit (alpha), and having a hydrolyzable silyl group on at least one terminal of the poly(oxyperfluoroalkylene) chain (alphabeta) via a linking group.
