Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method and device for handling an address conflict. The method for handling the address conflict comprises: acquiring a media access control (MAC) address of an associated first node and a first auxiliary identifier; receiving a MAC frame carrying the first auxiliary identifier; and, when the MAC frame is determined to have been transmitted by a second node, transmitting to the first node an auxiliary identifier conflict report message. The method and device of the embodiments of the present invention for handling the address conflict are capable of discovering and solving the problem of auxiliary identifier conflict of an AP caused in a MAC header compression method where the auxiliary identifier is used in place of the MAC address.
