In order to provide a ready-for-sale, unplanted planter (100) which has an accommodating space (10) in which is arranged a quantity of substrate (20) which is sufficient for planting at least one plant in the planter (100), the planter giving improved protection against the substrate pouring out, once introduced, and being suitable for straightforward and cost-effective production, a sheet-like covering (30) is fastened on the planter (100) to cover the accommodating space (10), this preventing the substrate (20) from exiting from the accommodating space (10).
