A descender, being arranged with a rope pressing member (5) upwards or downwards sliding under the control of hands. The rope pressing member extrudes a wound rope (3.2) on a spindle (1) when upwards sliding, the friction force of the wound rope (3.2) is increased, and a human body (4) stops descending; whereas the wound rope is not pressed when downwards sliding, the friction force of the wound rope is reduced, and the human body descends. The descender has the beneficial effects that user only needs operating the rope pressing member on the descender during utilization process to move the rope pressing member downwards or upwards, and the human body can descend or stop descending. The problem of inconvenience of use in traditional eight-shaped ring-type, shackle type, or rod type descender, has been solved in present descender, which has the advantages of simple operation, safety and convenience.
