PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell without a gas diffusion layer which is improved in drainage.SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes: a membrane-electrode assembly 20; a separator 40 arranged in opposition to the membrane-electrode assembly 20; gas passage forming parts (ribs) 42 arranged between the membrane-electrode assembly 20 and the separator 40 to form gas passages 44 having openings open toward the membrane-electrode assembly 20; and a micro porous layer (second MPL) 25 disposed between the membrane-electrode assembly 20 and the gas passage forming parts 42 and opposed to the gas passage forming parts 42 without the intervention of a gas diffusion layer. The openings of the gas passage forming parts 42 have a diameter t2 in the range of 0.1 μm to 400 μm.
