The present invention relates to the use of an isolated nucleic acid sequence encoding a UL82 or UL97 protein of a strain of human cytomegalovirus HCMV, or of an isolated amino acid sequence consisting of a sequence of a UL82 or UL97 protein of a strain of HCMV, for determining an oncogenic property in an HCMV.
