PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable rotating electric machine configured so that surface discharge is not generated in the air even when a corona shield layer is eroded due to electric discharge generated in an air gap near an interface between the corona shield layer and an insulating layer formed around a coil conductor. SOLUTION: The rotating electric machine includes the coil conductor 10 stored in an iron-core slot 2 and including an end portion extending toward the outside of the iron-core slot 2, a main insulating-layer-to-ground 4 formed around the coil conductor 10, and the corona shield layer 7 provided on an external periphery of the main insulation-layer-to-ground 4 and extending from the inside of the iron-core slot 2 to the outside to prevent corona discharge in the iron-core slot 10, wherein a pre-impregnated mica tape 22 is wound around the external periphery of the corona shield layer 7 positioned at the outside of the iron-core slot 2 as a protective layer against the surface discharge so that the corona shield layer 7 is not exposed.
