The device (1) has container feeding device (3) for intermittent feed of containers (5) in transport direction. A capping device has capping units corresponding to cap gripper units (9) in cap feeding device. A closure device (20) has several cap locking units (22) provided corresponding to each end of feed units (24). The capping device and cap gripper units of the cap feeding device are configured and arranged such that cap gripper units of cap feeding device are positively guided in lowering direction by capping device when capping device is moved in lowering direction.
