<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator apparatus for ascending or descending a car by a plurality of hoisting machines without inducing malfunction. <P>SOLUTION: The elevator apparatus includes: separately and independently arranged first and second drive control units 19 and 20 to drive and control the first and second hoisting machines 8 and 12; an operation management unit 18 which are arranged separately and independently from the drive control units 19 and 20, and output control commands to the drive control units 19 and 20; and a serial communication line 21 to connect the operation management unit 18 and the drive control units 19 and 20. The operation management unit 18 sends and receives information at a certain communication cycle.
