683,856. Explosively operated tools. POWDER-POWER TOOL CORPORATION. Dec. 19, 1950 [Dec. 29, 1949], No. 30952/50. Class 119 In a method of fixing studs in a surface by subjecting the stud to an explosive driving force, a standard explosive charge is used and the effective pressure and effective time during which pressure is applied are varied simultaneously. As shown, a stud 16 is placed in the barrel 13 of a tool and moved into a position a predetermined distance from the muzzle by a breech plug 14 which carries a standard explosive charge 18. Breech plugs having different extensions may be used thus varying the volume of the combustion chamber and the distance of the stud from the muzzle, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). A breech plug having no extension may also be used, Fig. 2 (not shown) and the stud placed in contact with it or moved to the required position by means of a graduated setting rod, Fig. 5 (not shown), which also has a projection for removing a used cartridge which may have stuck. |
