Two-step brightness adjustment in around-view systems

An around view system is described. In accordance with a first example of the invention the system comprises at least two cameras providing images covering different fields of view of an environment. Each camera is configured to capture images using an adjustable exposure time. Further, an exposure time control unit is provided that is configured to determine, for each camera, at least one brightness parameter from image data provided by the camera. The exposure time control unit is further configured to control the exposure times of the individual cameras such that the brightness parameter(s) determined for a first camera at least approximately match(es) corresponding brightness parameter(s) determined for a second camera.
