<p>A portable self-contained tool (10) fordetermining the heating requirements or energy efficiency of a dwelling. The tool (10) comprises the combination of a distance-measuring device (12) for producing output signal indicative of linear measurements and a microprocessor, and has a USB output port for connecting to a printer. The output signal of the measuring device is inputted directly into and a microprocessor (13). The microprocessor comprisesa display screen (14), a key pad (15), and a memory, and is pre programmed with (a) a predetermined list of room types;(b) a predetermined selection of the types of building materials used in the construction of the walls, floors, ceilings, roof and other elements of a room of a dwelling or other building;(c) predefined temperature gradient values for different room types; and, typical U values of the materials set out in (b). The output signal from the distance-measuring device (12) is inputted directly into the memory of the microprocessor, and the microprocessor may be further pre-programmed with a Ventilation Factor = 0.33 Watts/m~ ºCand typical air changes for the different types of rooms set out in (a)above. The data may be formatted into a report format that can be displayed or printed as an energy efficiency certificate.</p> |
