A method for determining the vase life or storage history of one or more cut flowers, wherein the method comprises assaying a test sample obtained from the one or more cut flowers for one or more of: (a) an indicator representative of xylose concentration; (b) an indicator representative of &bgr;-xylosidase expression; and (c) an indicator representative of &bgr;-xylosidase activity; to determine a value for (each of) the one or more indicators in the test sample. |
