An onsite appliance (20) is used to backup data for a client server (10). An offsite copy of the data on the appliance (30) is stored offsite at a site remote from a client. Repeated incremental copies of the data are stored on the onsite appliance and copied to offsite appliance. Only data different that has changed from the last incremental copy are stored. Virtual discs are created at the onsite (22, Fig 2) and offsite (32, Fig 3) appliance using the copy and updated by the incremental copies. On demand, the virtual discs maybe booted as a virtual server and the data made available to the users (5). Copy files may be further copied to a second offsite server.
