A backlight assembly and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the same are provided to form a round portion or a prism pattern for changing the path of light in the light incident surface of a light guide plate corresponding to the electrode portion of a lamp, thereby improving a problem such as the deterioration of brightness around the electrode portion of the lamp. A backlight assembly comprises a lamp(160), a light guide plate(150), and round portions. The light guide plate is disposed to form a side with the lamp. The round portions are formed in the edge area of the light guide plate corresponding to the electrode portion(163) of the lamp. The surface of the round portions has a pattern formed with one of a prism, a dot, and a pyramid shape. |
