PURPOSE: An image forming device for performing light exposure multiple times is provided to increase definition by forming a latent image through performing the light exposure once in case of a character image and to reduce the deterioration in an image quality caused by multiple light exposure by scanning a photosensitive member with a plurality of beams in case of halftone images such as images/graphics. CONSTITUTION: An exposure unit performs first light exposure in respect to a photosensitive member and second light exposure in respect to the light-exposed photosensitive member based on image data. A determination unit (103) determines a type of images formed based on the image data. A control unit (106) controls the exposure unit so that a difference of the light amount of the first and second light exposure in case that the image type is set as a character is larger than a difference of the light amount of the first and second light exposure in case that the image type is set as a drawing.
