PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium feeding device that can reliably detect presence or absence of a medium to be fed between a pair of rollers that sandwich and rotationally feed the medium to be fed.SOLUTION: A medium feeding device includes: a feed roller having a first roller 111 and a second roller 141 for sandwiching and rotationally feeding a medium to be fed; a first rotation body that is rotatably attached to a first roller axis 121 of the first roller 111; a second rotation body 105 which engages with the first rotation body while overlapping with the first rotation body, and disengages from the first rotation body by the medium to be fed nipped between the first and second rotation bodies; a rotation body support member 106 which supports the second rotation body 105 rotatably around the second roller axis 171 of the second roller 141, and is configured to be movable between an advancing position where the second rotation body 105 engages with the first rotation body and a retreating position where the second rotation body 105 disengages from the first rotation body; and a detection means 193 which detects the movement of the rotation body support member 106 to the retreating position.
