PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure high focus performance without being seriously influenced by noise or the like.SOLUTION: Imaging devices 105 and 109 extract a specific frequency component from a video signal generated by an imaging element 106 using a filter to generate an evaluation value and control the movement of a focus element 104 using the generated evaluation value each time the focus element 104 is moved by a predetermined amount. A first determination process is performed for determining whether a subject is a low contrast subject using the output signal of the imaging element 106. When the first determination process determines that the subject is a low contrast subject, a second determination process is performed for determining whether the evaluation value generated using each of a plurality of filters is a low contrast evaluation value. Then, a specific filter is selected from among a plurality of filters. A third determination process is performed for determining whether a change in a specific evaluation value generated using the specific filter satisfies a predetermined condition. When the predetermined condition is satisfied, a focus position is determined by the specific evaluation value. |
