PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the amount of toner attached to an image edge part in an image forming apparatus, and thereby preventing excessive/too little consumption of toner or character thickening/character thinning due to a difference in printing speed.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus forms an electrostatic latent image by exposing a photoreceptor charged at a predetermined potential, makes the electrostatic latent image a visible image with toner, and transfers the visible image on a recording medium. The image forming apparatus includes toner pattern creation means for creating a plurality of toner patterns T1, T2, and T3 each having the different amount of edge part included in a predetermined area on an image carrier, and density measurement means for measuring the density of the toner patterns T1, T2, and T3; and detects the amount of toner attached to the edge part on the basis of a measurement result by the density measurement means. |
