PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress and decompress image data, the amount of data per pixel of which has an arbitrary number of bits exceeding 8 bits, efficiently while reducing image quality deterioration.SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes an image division unit for diving input image data of 9 bits or more per pixel into a plurality of division image data of 8 bits per pixel where at least one lower bit of division image data on the upper bit side overlaps at least one upper bit of division image data on the lower bit side, a compression unit for compressing the plurality of division image data divided by the image division unit, a control unit for storing the plurality of division image data compressed by the compression unit in a storage unit, a decompression unit for decompressing the plurality of division image data read from the storage unit, and an image reconstruction unit for reconstructing the original image data on the basis of the plurality of division image data decompressed by the decompression unit. |
