PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for automatically inspecting appearance defects of a porous carbon fiber sheet-like material comprising short carbon fiber and carbonized resin and traveling continuously in an optical approach and detecting plural types of defects different in feature quantitatively and accurately.SOLUTION: The method for inspecting a porous carbon fiber sheet-like material comprising short carbon fiber and carbonized resin and traveling continuously comprises at least (a) lighting means irradiating the sheet-like material with light, (b) imaging means receiving reflected light from the lighting means, (c) data processing means for processing image data obtained by the imaging means, and (d) data classifying means extracting and classifying defects according to feature amount comprising at least one of minimum luminance value and maximum luminance value obtained by the data processing means. |
