PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding method capable of grinding a long workpiece to have a uniform thickness wherein the long workpiece is held on a holding unit and an upper face of the long workpiece is in an inclined condition.SOLUTION: A grinding method is for grinding a long workpiece with a grinding means having a grinding wheel. In the method, upper face height positions of one end and the other end of the long workpiece held on a holding means are measured to detect an inclination direction of an upper face of the long workpiece, and to detect an inclination degree from the height positions of the one end and the other end, and length of a long side of the long workpiece. Then the holding means is turned in a horizontal direction to direct lower one of the one end and the other end of the long workpiece to the grinding means, and a holding means rotation step is carried out to match a longitudinal direction of the long workpiece to a moving direction of the holding means. Afterwards, while moving the holding means closer to the grinding means in the horizontal direction, based on the inclination degree of the upper face of the long workpiece detected in an inclination detection step, the grinding means is continuously moved upward to grind the long workpiece along inclination of the upper face thereof. |
