METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING LIQUID CRYSTAL ALIGNMENT STRUCTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal alignment structure capable of appropriately forming liquid alignment structure including alignment defects disposed periodically.SOLUTION: A groove extending in one direction is prepared, and the groove is filled with a liquid crystal material. Liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal material are formed into a nonuniform alignment state by using the groove inner face (a curved face or the like) so as to form alignment defects in the liquid crystal material. The alignment defects are periodically disposed by using the fact that the groove extends in the one direction and the groove width is finite. Consequently, this configuration can manufacture the liquid crystal alignment structure capable of appropriately forming the liquid crystal alignment structure including the alignment defects disposed periodically.
