PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove dirt adhering to a document reading position reliably.SOLUTION: The image reader includes an SPF reading unit for reading an image, and a document is read by the SPF reading unit while being conveyed thereon by an automatic document conveyance device. The image reader is further provided with a lighting unit for irradiating a plurality of regions on the SPF reading unit, in the direction orthogonal to the conveyance direction of document, with light, a lighting control unit 177 for controlling the lighting of the lighting unit, and a dirt detection unit 173 for determining whether or not there is a dirt on the SPF reading unit and detecting the dirt. The lighting control unit 177 controls lighting of the lighting unit so as to irradiate a region corresponding to a position, where a dirt is detected by the dirt detection unit 173, with light. |
