PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle periphery monitoring device for appropriately detecting a monitoring object from a pickup image of a camera of an own vehicle regardless of the height of a degree of skew between the own vehicle and the monitoring object.SOLUTION: A vehicle periphery monitoring device including cameras 3a and 3b which pick up an image of a predetermined monitoring area at the front side of a vehicle 2 includes: skew degree determination means 9 for determining the height of the degree of skew of the own vehicle 2 with respect to a monitoring object (for example, on-coming vehicle) which is present in the monitoring area; and monitoring object detection means 7 for detecting the monitoring object form the pickup image by selecting and executing either an algorithm for low degree of skew or an algorithm for high degree of skew in accordance with the height of the degree of skew. |
