PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transgenic plant that can sufficiently secure the yield of the plant without reducing much lignin content in a plant body and obtain a plant body suitable for efficient saccharification, and a method for producing saccharides that can efficiently produce the saccharides.SOLUTION: A transgenic plant is restrained from the gene expression of an enzyme that performs biosynthesis in a surface layer region of a noncrystalline region and/or a crystalline region of lignocellulose in a harbaceous monocotyledon, and also from the gene expression of an enzyme that performs biosynthesis in an inside layer region of the crystalline region. The transgenic plant is restrained from the expression of a gene that encodes polypeptide that has cynnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase or caffeic acid 3-O-methyltransferase activity, or its variant. A method for producing saccharides uses the transgenic plant. |
