The present invention relates to an apparatus for inputting a letter using a touch screen, including: an input unit for receiving letters that correspond to signals generated by touch inputs or movement inputs in a predetermined direction by means of a touch; basic letters arranged on the input unit; an output unit for outputting basic letters during touch inputs of the basic letters arranged on the input unit, and outputting additional letters which are not arranged on the input unit when other basic letters are touched after the basic letters are touched or while the basic letters are touched and then moved in a predetermined direction; and a controller for controlling the formation of letters, characters, numbers, symbols, or special letters from among the basic letters and additional letters, which are input by the input unit, or of combinations thereof.
