PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus for obtaining a high quality image by performing edge reinforcement effectively while suppressing noise.SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes an edge reinforcement unit 33, and a brightness level determination unit 54. The edge reinforcement unit 33 performs edge reinforcement of a brightness signal 35 obtained from an image signal. The edge reinforcement unit 33 adds the extraction data 38 subjected to noise cancellation and amplitude limitation to the brightness signal 35. The brightness level determination unit 54 determines the level of the brightness signal 35. The brightness level determination unit 54 compares the level of the brightness signal 35 with preset thresholds d1, d2 for brightness level determination. The edge reinforcement unit 33 adjusts the extraction data 38 by using coefficients selected according to the comparison result from the brightness level determination unit 54 before being added to the brightness signal 35.
