摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a pixel size smaller than that of a conventional image pickup element.SOLUTION: Each of plural pixels of an image pickup element comprises: an optical waveguide; a photoelectric conversion part; a microlens; and at least three light-shielding layers arranged between the photoelectric conversion part and the microlens at different positions in an optical axis direction of the microlens. Each of at least three light-shielding layers is provided with an opening for limiting light transmitted from the microlens and making the photoelectric conversion part receive the light. Among at least three light-shielding layers, a main light-shielding layer except for the light-shielding layer nearest the photoelectric conversion part and the light-shielding layer nearest the microlens is arranged at a position optically conjugate with a pupil surface. At least one part of the light of a light flux passing through a predetermined region of the pupil surface is incident on the opening of the main light-shielding layer. The optical waveguide is provided between the main light-shielding layer and the photoelectric conversion part, and at least one part of the light incident on the opening of the main light-shielding layer is guided to the photoelectric conversion part.
