MIDPLANE ORTHOGONAL CONNECTOR SYSTEM

A midplane connector system (100) comprises a midplane circuit board (110) having a first header assembly (116) and a second header assembly (118) mounted to respective opposite sides of the midplane circuit board. A first receptacle assembly (132) is coupled to the first header assembly and coupled to a first circuit board (130). A second receptacle assembly (152) is coupled to the second header assembly and coupled to a second circuit board (150) which is orthogonal to the first circuit board. The first receptacle assembly has signal contacts with mating portions arranged in pairs that are oriented parallel to the first circuit board, and the second receptacle assembly has signal contacts with mating portions arranged in pairs that are oriented perpendicular to the second circuit board.
