PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element and a display device that control an optical effect by using an electrowetting phenomenon.SOLUTION: An optical element 1 is composed by overlapping a first room 10 and a second room 11 that are partitioned by a partition wall 3 so as to partially communicate to each other, in a vertical direction, which is a thickness direction, and by pouring into the rooms first liquid 13 and second liquid 14 that do not mix with each other and have different refractive indices for each other and sealing the rooms. A lens structure is provided on a first surface 8 of the first room 10. An electrode 21 and an insulation film 22 are respectively arranged on the first surface 8, a second surface 9 and both faces of the partition wall 3. The optical element 1 can control a voltage application between an electrode 21 of the first surface 8 and a counter electrode 21 of the partition wall 3 and a voltage application between an electrode 21 of the second surface 9 and the counter electrode 21 of the partition wall 3, control whether the first liquid 13 can be received in the first room 10, and select whether to exert the lens function by the lens structure of the first surface 8. The display device includes the optical element 1. |
