Class 96, Wires 9 from coils 6 are tensioned at 7, straightened at 8, passed to guide wheels 4, to feed rolls 10. through shears 11, to guides 12 directed towards a suction forming- and supporting surface 1, the suction boxes of which may be stationary or as an endless travelling chain, and which surface 1 may be longitudinally corrugated &c. and whereon the fibre and cement mix from a feeding and distributing carriage 2 is formed about the wires 9, Transverse wires cut off from a coil 14, after straightening and cutting to length are secured at intervals to the longitudinal wires 9 as by welding or bending, with the aid of a moving carriage 20. The guide wheels 4 converge towards each other at their lower parts to allow the transverse wires to be bowed as by a former 22 e.g. to conform to the longitudinally corrugated surface 1. In modifications (1) the wire guides . and distributing-carriage 2 &c. reciprocate above a chain of suction boxes with shaped tops ; (2) cut lengths of wire are placed on a layer of fibrous cement and a further layer applied above the wire reinforcement. |
