PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent substance with a light emission efficiency superior to that of the conventional configuration with a crystal structure same as the CaAlSiN3 crystal phase for absorbing light from a light emitting element such as LED so as to emit red light as the host crystal, and a light emitting element of high luminance and long life by use of the fluorescent substance.SOLUTION: A powdery fluorescent substance is represented by the formula: Ca(Si, Al)(N, O), (wherein 0.75≤x≤0.92, -0.2≤y≤0.2) with a part of Ca element substituted by a Eu element. The substance has a Si/Al ratio (molar ratio) of 0.9-1.55, a Eu content of 0.01 at%-0.3 at%, and an intra-granular solid solution oxygen amount of 0.4 mass%-0.7 mass%. |
