[Classes 75(ii), 75(iii) and 75(iv)] A lighting fitting for tubular lamps is supported by a slot therein being engaged by means inserted through the slot and then turned to lie across the slot and clamped therein, such support means being adjustable along the slot and therefore being adapted to connect with irregularly spaced electric supply conduit. The supporting and clamping means Figs. 3 and 4 comprises two plates 13, 14 connected for rotation together by two rivets 18 on which the lower plate 14 can slide to provide a groove between the plates which groove receives the edges of the slot of the lighting fitting. The top plate 13 is of a greater dimension than the slot but the bottom plate 14 is turned down at two sides 14a to give a width there which is less than that of the slot so that this lower plate can enter the slot and on being turned so that its longer dimension lies across the slot the lighting fitting is supported thereby, the plates 12, 14 being secured on a supply conduit piece 15 between two nuts 16, 17 the upper nut 17 having a fingered head for hand tightening to clamp the plates 13, 14 in their adjusted position along the slot. Depending lugs 13b, Fig. 4, on the top plate act as stops for the two limit positions of the lower plate 14 by butting against the edges of the slot. The lighting fitting comprises two sheet metal portions 10a, 10b, Fig. 3, joined by a channel member 12 having edges engaged by the doubled over edges of the portions 10a, 10b, these edges providing the slot of the lighting fitting. A reflector 11, Fig. 1, may be secured by catch members 30 each provided with a finger grip 31a and having a grooved stem adapted to be engaged by inwardly projecting arms of a U-shaped spring 32 on a bracket 28 secured to the base of the channel member 12, the reflector being released by rotation of the grips 31a to cause the springs 32 to ride out of their respective grooves. The electric cable from the conduit passes to a plug and socket 23, 24 mounted in the channel portion 12. By withdrawing the plug 23 and turning the support plates 13, 14 the whole lighting fitting may be readily removed. Chain suspension may be provided by hook inserted in the conduit piece 15. |
