PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for plugging a tube that facilitates the plugging and unplugging of a plug.SOLUTION: A device and a method are for plugging a tube. The device includes a plug member 4 having a central shaft 6 having a compressible member 5 mounted on the central shaft 6 such that axial compression of the compressible member 5 radially expands the compressible member 5 into sealing engagement with an inner wall of a tube in which the plug member 4 is inserted. The device further includes a drive means removably engaged with the plug member 4 for inserting the plug member 4 into the tube and for providing an axial force on the compressible member 5 to cause radial expansion of the compressible member 5 into sealing engagement with the inner wall of the tube.
