PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an olefinic polymer having high molecular weight, highly actively at high temperature.SOLUTION: A method includes polymerizing olefin at high temperature of 100 to 300°C using a catalyst for olefin polymerization comprising the components (A) and (B) as follows: (A) an organometal compound represented by the formula: CpLMXp [wherein M is a metal of group 4 in the periodic table; and L is a heterocyclic ligand represented by general formula (1) (wherein Rand Rare each a 1-20C hydrocarbon group)]; and (B) a compound for generating a cationic organometal compound by reacting with the organometal compound of the component (A).
