[Problem] To provide an electric power steering device whereby the continuous charging time of a large electric current flowing to a motor relay is limited, the large electric current is controlled so as to be reduced, there is no need to use a high-capacity relay as the motor relay, and an inexpensive system configuration is made possible by using an inexpensive low-capacity electromagnetic relay as the motor relay. [Solution] An electric power steering device in which a PWM signal is generated based on a calculated steering auxiliary command value, a motor is PWM driven via a motor drive circuit configured from a switching element to assist the control of a steering system, and a motor relay is interposed between the motor drive circuit and the motor; wherein the electric power steering device is provided with: a steering state detector for detecting the steering state of a steering handle, outputting a long-time held-steering signal when a state is detected in which steering is held for a long period of time, and outputting a normal steering signal when a normal steering state is detected; and a motor current controller for determining a motor current control value for controlling the motor current flowing to the motor relay in accordance with the long-time held-steering signal or the normal steering signal. |
