PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant composition and an insulated wire which are superior in heat resistance and flame retardancy and exhibit a high gel fraction even when a brominated organic flame retardant is used.SOLUTION: A flame-retardant composition contains 20-50 pts.mass of a brominated organic flame retardant, 1-40 pts.mass of antimony trioxide as a flame retardant auxiliary, and 5-40 pts.mass of an inorganic filler based on 100 pts.mass of a polymer component containing 40-80 pts.mass of a silane-modified polyethylene resin and 20-60 pts.mass of a polyethylene resin that is not silane-modified. In an insulated wire, the outer periphery of a conductor is covered with an insulator formed of the flame-retardant composition.
