PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new technology to appropriately suppress the deterioration of image quality such as banding.SOLUTION: A printing apparatus includes: an image forming section to form a first test image and a second test image using consumable materials; an acquisition section to acquire read data obtained by optically reading the respective formed test images; and a selection part to select a resolution used for image formation out of a usable print resolution based on the acquired read data. Each test image is an image where an image pattern is arranged along a sub-scanning direction. The first test image has a corresponding relationship with the first print resolution, and the second test image has a corresponding relationship with the second print resolution. The image pattern is defined by an arrangement area where print pixels are arranged and a non-arrangement area where the pixels are not arranged.
