PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that prevents hot spots from arising on a peripheral part of a light emitting region of a backlight at low cost, and that allows a light guide plate area and an area of a light shielding region of the liquid crystal display device to be reduced.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal panel, a backlight including a light guide plate, and a light shielding member. In the liquid crystal display device, the light shielding member is disposed in front of an end part of the light guide plate, and when the light guide plate is divided into two regions in a thickness direction, which are a first region including a light exiting surface of the light guide plate and a second region excluding the light exiting surface, a lateral face of the light guide plate has, at the rear of the light shielding member, a first portion included in the first region and/or a second portion included in the second region. A normal vector of the first portion faces in a direction approaching a plane which includes the light exiting surface, and the normal vector of the second portion is facing a direction separating from the plane which includes the light exiting surface. |
