PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack for a rack-and-pinion type steering device, which includes the rack tooth part and axial directional end screw part with strength and durability equal to or above that of a rack using only a conventional iron based material, and which is reduced remarkably in weight and high in reliability.SOLUTION: A rack is obtained by: forming a rack tooth part and a small diameter part, which is obtained by making a part in the axial direction thin, on a steel-made cored bar; forming a carbon fiber reinforced plastic outer shell comprising a laminate formed by winding at least one of a unidirectional prepreg or fabric prepreg of a carbon fiber on the small diameter part; and then performing the cutting work of an outside diameter of the carbon fiber plastic outer shell. |
