PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical modulator and an optical transmitter module that allow light intensity to be monitored with multiplex loss smaller than before.SOLUTION: The optical modulator includes: a relay optical waveguide 102 that guides light output from a SG-DBR laser 109; a demultiplexer 103 that demultiplexes light output from the relay optical waveguide 102; an MZ optical waveguide 104 and an MZ optical waveguide 105 that guide light demultiplexed by the demultiplexer 103, and can control a phase difference in light to be output; a multiplexer 106 that can set an optical waveguide capable of outputting signal light in an arbitrary manner, and multiplexes light to be output from each of the MZ optical waveguide 104 and MZ optical waveguide 105; an output optical waveguide 107 that is set as an optical waveguide capable of outputting the signal light and outputs light multiplexed by the multiplexer 106 as the signal light; and an optical detector 117 that detects intensity of light to be input. The optical detector 117 is disposed apart from an optical axis of an optical waveguide to be set as the optical waveguide capable of outputting the signal light.
