The invention relates to a mounting element for a built-in light provided for fitting in a built-in opening. The mounting means (1) has a base part (4) and a locking element (5) that can be moved relative to the base part (4) from a mounting position into a locking position. A corresponding built-in light, equipped with the mounting element (1), can be introduced into the built-in opening, if the locking element is in the mounting position, and is fixed in a designated built-in position in the built-in opening if the locking element (5) is in the locking position. The mounting element further comprises means for independent movement of the locking element (5) from the mounting position to the locking position.
