The engine has an incompressible, non-combustible, hydraulic actuator unit (10) actuating a valve e.g. exhaust gas valve. A water circuit (11) i.e. cooling water circuit, provides a water pressure in an operating mode. The actuator unit includes hydraulic pressure chambers (12, 13), which are flow-technically fastened to the water circuit in the mode by a hydraulic interface (14). A pressure amplifier (15) is flow-technically arranged after the interface and increases the water pressure for the actuator unit. A drive element (16) is provided for drive-technical attachment at a crankshaft.
