<p>Apparatus for shaping wood comprising a carriage 2 having a front pair of wheels 3 and a rear pair of wheels 4, a saw blade 1 and a saw motor for driving the saw blade to perform a sawing action transversely of the carriage. The front pair of wheels is arranged to run on a first pair of guide rails 5 and the rear pair of wheels run on a second pair of guide rails 6 parallel to the first pair. The first and second guide rails have a vertically varying profile whose shape is determined by the desired cut shape of the wood. The profiles of the first pair of guide rails being displaced horizontally with respect to the profiles of the second pair of guide rails by a distance corresponding to the distance between the axes of rotation of the front and rear wheels. Drive means propel the carriage along the rails. Preferably the guide rails are removably mounted and the saw blade is a band saw driven by a combustion engine. The apparatus may be used to cut timber into fencing panels of a sinusoidal profile, so as to create fences of a woven nature.</p> |
