The method involves detecting a magnetic field strength dependant on a measured variable due to a distance between permanent magnets (101, 102) of each permanent magnet pair in equilibrium by a magnetic field sensor (103) within a gap between two magnetic poles as a directly proportional electrical variable. The permanent magnets are movably arranged relative to each other in a direction of vector components. An output signal is conducted into a signal processing, outputting and/or display device for determination of the magnetic field sensor required for the measured variable. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for measuring force and a variable e.g. pressure, torque, acceleration, and weight derived from the force.
