An apparatus and a method for producing time stamp in case of compressing a recorded material are provided to generate time stamps about image and sound data packets, using information of the number of the image and sound data packets generated from a packet generating part for reproducing the recorded material at the same speed as one of the recorded material before compression and generating the time stamp information of each image and sound data packet of the compressed material. An apparatus for producing time stamp in case of compressing a recorded material comprises a screen switch detecting part(200), a packet disassembly part(202), a data compression part(206), a packet generating part(208), and a time stamp generating part(204). The screen switch detecting part detects a screen switch flag signal contained in a data packet of the video. The packet disassembly part disassemblies data packets inputted from the data packet detected by an N-th screen switch flag signal to the data packet detected by an N+1th screen switch flag signal. The data compression part compresses the image data by a pre-set compression method. The packet generating part packets the image and sound data outputted through the data compression part. The time stamp generating part generates time stamps about the image and sound data packets by information of the number of the image and sound data packets generated from the packet generating part. |
