PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively use operating means in accordance with an operation target item, in an imaging apparatus including various operating means such as a focus ring. SOLUTION: As an imaging apparatus, a video camera 101 includes: an operating section 185 for receiving operation due to a user; a touch panel section 182 which can be opened/closed with respect to a body, for receiving an operation of touch onto a display screen; an operation recognizing section for recognizing a first operation received via the operating section 185, when the touch panel section 182 is in a closed state, as an operation for setting a setting value for a specific setting item, and for recognizing a second operation received via at least the touch panel section 182, when the touch panel section 182 is in an open state, as an operation for setting a setting value for the specific setting item; and a control section for setting the setting value for the specific setting item in accordance with a result recognized by the operation recognizing section.
