The two stroke internal combustion engine has inlet valve (2) which is incorporated in a piston (5). The fresh gases are swirled over the piston with inlet valve, so that the fresh gases separate from burned old gases. The fresh gas measurement unit (4) measure fresh air in the combustion chamber to discriminate between burned old gases and fresh gases. A discharge passage/exhaust valve (1) is controlled based on the measurement data so that unused fresh gases are not lost and combustion chamber can be completely filled.
