PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin identification device for stably keeping accuracy and speed in recognition even when there are many kinds of coins to be processed. SOLUTION: The coin identification device 1 is provided with: an image capturing unit 2 which has an image pickup element 6 for acquiring image data of a coin and an output buffer part 8; an identification processing unit 3 which has a connector C1 for connecting the image capturing unit 2, an input buffer part 9 for receiving and transferring image data, a connector C2 for connecting an identification processing unit 5, and a CPU 14a for identifying the coin on the basis of image data; and an identification processing unit 5 which has a connector C4 for connecting the identification processing unit 3, an input buffer part 16 for receiving and transferring the image data, a connector C5 for extension, and a CPU 21a for identifying the coin on the basis of the image data.
